I thought about what I could write to really make this site special, my own. I thought about writing a biography, but most of the sites I linked to already have one of those. I could go on about they started with so-and-so, who left the band, and was later replaced by blahbiddyblah, so on and so forth. But those details don't really resonate with me, they're here, one of the greatest bands of our time, that's the point. So I guess all I can really write about is what they mean to me, personally. And personally, it's all about the music. At this point in my life, and probably for the rest of it, music is everything to me. I center my life around it, wholly. What's amazing about AFI is...a lot of bands evolve with time, that's a given. But many just seem to...change. Out of the blue. What's great is that as you listen to their albums from the very first to the very newest, it's so clear that they're truly growing and learning, and getting better with experience, without making their older releases pale in comparison. Sing the Sorrow is by far the best album I've ever heard, and Very Proud of Ya is just as good in a different way. Another great thing about them is their diversity. You've got goths, metal kids, hxc punk kids, straight edgers, skaters, whatever...you can find AFI fans from all of those. But the best thing...is they can also strike the fancy of a kid like me, who doesn't seem to fit into any of those categories. They're completely eclectic and original, which in this age, is so impressive. They're all uniquely talented...Hunter did a really great job on StS, especially The Great Disappointment, Adam's drum beats are perfect, Jade's guitar work is always, for lack of a better word, catchy and imaginative, and Davey's voice perfectly stresses the emotions of each song and definitely tugs at your heart and soul strings. And the lyrics are amazing. I've always had a big belief that lyrics mean whatever they mean to the person hearing/reading them, and AFI's lyrics are perfectly crafted. Just cryptic and yet specific enough to evoke incredible meaning in whoever hears them, without giving certain details away. Basically, I believe that anyone who gives AFI the chance could find a huge oppertunity for inspiration and lyrical insight. Personally, they give me much needed happiness when times are not so great.
